Anxiety Training

Beagle with separation anxiety… Training?

I recently adopted a 4 year old female Beagle who was supposed to be kennel trained. I have learned, however, that she suffers from severe separation anxiety when she is left alone in her kennel. She tries very hard to get out of her kennel, she chews anything she can reach, she barks and whines very loudly and she has even gotten her head stuck when she almost got the door open. I go to school during the week and have not had that much time to help her with this issue. It is also very cold where I live right now and with her being so small we can’t go on very long walks to drain her energy, and in the house she is very relaxed and calm, sleeping most of the time. She also sleeps fine in the kennel at night so I know she’s not afraid of it. Leaving her out of the kennel is not an option as she will have accidents or chew on things when left alone. On Christmas break I want to retrain her and get her to be calm when I leave the house. Any suggestions?

This is what happens when beagles do not get enough exercise. If you think she is cold get her a sweater and get outside and walk everyday. No excuses
For now you can start putting something fun in the crate, letting her go in but don’t close the door. Then start closing it just for a few minutes and build up the time. But the exercise is the key, she is a beagle

The Anxiety Wrap uses a technique called “maintained pressure” to aid in calming your animal thereby allowing your dog to redirect their focus. When used with gentle training methods, the Anxiety Wrap can significantly reduce thunder phobia, barking, and other behaviors that would benefit from calming. Size: Mini (16.1″-19″ girth). Girth = length around the rib cage at its largest point. The Anxiety Wrap was created to fill an existing need, it’s a holistic approach and an alternative to traditional behavior modification for dog and cats. The Anxiety Wrap can ease your dog and cat’s anxieties. When used properly it has proven positive to increase balance, self-confidence, focus, preparation for and during training, animal to animal socialization, animal to human socialization, bonding, relaxation, and gait awareness. And there’s more…Anxiety Wrap can help to end dog and cat aggression, shyness, nervousness, releasing stress & tension, end jumping, stop destructive chewing, fear biting, car sickness, unnecessary barking, shyness, fear of loud noises, thunderstorm fear, sensitivity to touch, sensitive to sound, aloofness, emotional upset, hyperactivity, grooming issues and other anxieties. A brief explanation of how it works. The Anxiety Wrap is a wrap that applies slight pressure across a wide area of the body, stimulating the body’s receptors to aid in the transmission of different sensations to different parts of the brain. When the animal receives this new information, it’s awareness and focus can change, resulting in the animal “letting go” of the old sensation and modifying its behavior. A similar technique is used in children and adults with autism, providing a calming effect.

As the principal design of the institute was to improve the teachers in the common schools, a thorough course of instruction was given in all the branches usually taught therein. Instruction was also given in several of the higher branches of an English education. The result of this delicate and important experiment, to which the friends of the common schools looked with great anxiety, was both beneficial and decisive. It was undertaken with considerable hesitation, for a failure at this critical time would have resulted in serious injury to the cause ; its success, however, largely decided public opinion in favor of establishing Normal Schools for the professional training of teachers for the common schools. The services of County Superintendent J. P. Wickersham, as Principal of the Institute, were rendered without any additional compensation. Among the resolutions passed by the students at the close of the term we find the following : “Resolved, That we, the students of this Institute, tender our heartfelt thanks to Prof. J. P. Fired from US Air Force F-89J over Yucca Flats , Nevada Test Site at an altitude of 15,000 ft (4.5 km).The interception of Soviet bombers was a major military preoccupation of the late 1940s and 1950s. The revelation in 1947 that the Soviet Union had produced a reverse-engineered copy of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, the Tupolev Tu-4 (NATO reporting name ‘Bull’), which could reach the continental United States in a one-way attack, followed by the Soviets developing their own atomic bomb in 1949, produced considerable anxiety. The World War II -vintage fighter armament of machine guns and cannon were inadequate to stop attacks by massed formations of high-speed bombers. Firing large volleys of unguided rockets into bomber formations was not much better, and true air-to-air missiles were in their infancy. In 1954 Douglas Aircraft began a program to investigate the possibility of a nuclear-armed air-to-air weapon. To ensure simplicity and reliability, the weapon would be unguided, the large blast radius making precise accuracy unnecessary. The resultant weapon

Five years ago Jane Stern was a walking encyclopedia of panic attacks, depression, and hypochondria. Her marriage of more than thirty years was suffering, and she was virtually immobilized by fear and anxiety. As the daughter of parents who both died before she was thirty, Stern was terrified of illness and death, and despite the fact that her acclaimed career as a food and travel writer required her to spend a great deal of time on airplanes, she suffered from a persistent fear of flying and severe claustrophobia. But a strange thing happened one day on a plane that was grounded at the Minneapolis airport for six horrible, foodless, airless hours. A young man on a trip with his classmates suddenly became dizzy and pale because he hadn’t eaten in many hours, and there was no food left on the plane. Without thinking about it, Jane gave him the candy bar that she had in her purse. A short time later the color had returned to his cheeks, the boy was laughing again with his friends, and Jane realized that this one small act of kindness–helping another person who was suffering–had provided her with comfort and a sense of well-being. It was shortly thereafter that this fifty-two-year-old writer decided to become an emergency medical technician, eventually coming to be known as Ambulance Girl. Stern tells her story with great humor and poignancy, creating a wonderful portrait of a middle-aged, Woody Allen-ish woman who was deeply and neurotically terrified of sick and dead people, but who went out into the world to save other people’s lives as a way of saving her own. Her story begins with the boot camp of EMT training: 140 hours at the hands of a dour ex-marine who took delight inpresenting a veritable parade of amputations, hideous deformities, and gross disasters. Jane–overweight and badly out of shape–had to surmount physical challenges like carrying a 250-pound man seated in a chair down a dark flight of stairs. After class she did rounds in the emergency ro

An exploratory investigation of the psychological component of the medical examination for child sexual abuse.

An exploratory investigation of the psychological component of the medical examination for child sexual abuse.

$49.99

Child sexual abuse in the United States is a significant problem receiving increased attention in the past 30 years. During this time, disclosure of child sexual abuse has become more accepted and has thus increased. Part of the child sexual abuse evaluation process is the medical exam, which is an invasive, anxiety-provoking experience for an already traumatized child. Examiner clinical practices vary based upon their experience, training, and resources. The child's psychological impact from the exam has been an area of research, but it is unknown whether examiners adequately address the child's psychological needs during an exam. Twenty-eight medical examiners affiliated with multidisciplinary teams in the northeast U.S. region were interviewed. This exploratory study investigated examiners' clinical practices. In particular, the interventions they implement in relation to training, experience, and knowledge of the literature on the psychological component of the exam. Results revealed variability in the total interventions employed as well as examiner experience and training. Examiners reported using 14 to 24 interventions during the exam. Overall the total number of interventions employed did not relate to examiner training or experiences. The only significant finding was that those examiners who completed a fellowship focused on child abuse were significantly less likely to implement interventions. Post hoc analysis revealed many significant relationships between an examiner's rated skills training of psychologically related interventions, thus suggesting there may be overlap in training of psychologically related interventions. The small sample size and the exploratory nature of the study do not make the results generalizable to all examiners who conduct sexual abuse exams. Although we do not know the effectiveness of psychologically related interventions, more attention must be given to the psychological component of the exam. A

The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes and barriers of the use of computer technology among track and field officials, and to discover the needs of information technology in Taiwan. It was designed based on a mixed method. The quantitative method was conducted to determine the attitudes and barriers by using computer technology among track and field officials and the subjects involved with 135 track and field officials who participated in the Chinese Taipei International Athletic Meet in Tainan City on May 29-30, 2008. A total of 101 responded for an effective response rate of 74.8%. An quantitative instrument included demographics and the Attitudes Toward Computer Technology Scale in Chinese version (ACT). Barriers in the Use of Computer Technology in Chinese version (BUC) was used as the research tool. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations, and percentage), t-test, MANOVA, and Bonferroni. The .05 level of significance was used for all statistical analysis. Furthermore, fifteen officials who have experience serving as chief officials and who participated in this championship were selected for a further face-to-face interview with a formal and semi-structured format. The qualitative method was designed to explore the needs of information technology. A significant difference was found between professions and the set of comfort/anxiety. Analysis showed that the age groups of 21-30 and 31-40 had stronger feelings of comfortable in the use of computer technology than the age group of 60 up. Furthermore, the findings indicated that the officials who have a master’s degree had more comfortable feelings about using computer technology than those with a junior college degree. The results determined 7 factors as either barriers or facilitators in the use of computer technology, including administration, training, software, support, time, equipment, and facilitator. Most of 15 track and field officials who
